7 tips to make your perfume last longer

June 11, 2021

The choice of our perfume is an important step because it is, in a way, the final touch of our identity. However, keeping your perfume last all day is another story. Here are some tips for smelling good from morning to night!

The reasons why your perfume does not hold

There are a number of reasons your scent may not hold up. It all depends on your skin type, the area you spray it on or where you store it. Remember, your skin is alive and has its own acidity. This is why a scent will not work the same on your skin as it does on someone else’s. You must therefore test a few samples before making your choice.

Be careful not to confuse the ineffectiveness of your perfume and your habit of smelling it. If you’ve been wearing your perfume for a few hours, you won’t smell it out of habit. But if you find that it really doesn’t smell long enough for your liking, here are some tips to help you make your scent last longer and not waste your favorite juice.

Finally, the perfumes are available in several concentrations. So, if you want it to last a long time, go for “real” scents. Eau de Toilette contains around 7 to 12% of aromatic essences, while Eau de Parfum has a concentration of 12 to 20%. Finally, the perfume contains 20 to 40% essences and will be able to last a whole day.

1st Tip. Moisturize your skin

A perfume will last much shorter on dry skin than on well hydrated skin. So apply cream, oil or moisturizing milk to your skin before applying perfume. To avoid odor clash, opt for fragrance-free hydration options.

2nd Tip. Spray your perfume on pulsating areas

If you were wondering why in the movies women used perfume in certain areas, here’s why: there are areas of the body called “hot spots” that will make your scent last longer than others. Why ? Because they will produce heat and will therefore diffuse your perfume throughout the day. These areas are the elbows, wrists, neck and back of the ears.

3rd Tip. Use Vaseline

Why use petroleum jelly? It is the most effective tip. This contains occlusive active ingredients that will make it easier to retain the smell of your perfume. All you need to do is apply it to the areas you want to perfume. Then let the petroleum jelly penetrate and when it’s done, brush over it with your perfume. It’s that easy!

4th. Don’t store your perfume just anywhere

In the morning, it’s not enough to put on perfume and then leave the perfume bottle on the corner of the dresser. On the contrary, it is imperative to store it in a place where there will be no contact with light, heat or humidity. These elements will tend to break down your scent. It is best to keep it in a dark place.

5th. Perfume your clothes

Scenting your clothes is a great alternative. Fabrics contain fibers that will trap the scent of your perfume. To make sure your scent scrunchie sticks, spray some in your closet.

6th. Choose the perfumes in solid form

Being very concentrated, solid scents will last longer on your skin. All you need to do is apply it with your fingertips to the desired areas and voila! Plus, it’s easily transportable in your bag and you don’t risk annoying people around you during a touch-up.

7th. Prefer the perfume on the hair rather than the skin

Hair retains odors very easily. So you can spray it lightly on your hairbrush and run through it. The other solution is to spray the perfume directly into your hair. Try not to overdo it as it can dry out your hair. If your hair gets damp, it’s because you’ve sprayed too much.
